Lucas Raymond is poised to go number 3 overall in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

Lucas Raymond will be up against stiff competition in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Alexis Lafreniere and Quinton Byfield have pulled away from the pack but it isn’t a huge gap after Lafreniere. The draft promises to be the best draft since 2003 and just might be better. Lucas is one of the harder workers available and has a very high hockey IQ. Excellent sublime hands with quick accurate passes. I really like his game, he can play both ends of the rink. He has a John Tonelli mentality when in the opposition zone, check, check, check. He will pound you into submission. Gerard Gallant would love him in Vegas as he is a relentless fore checker. Lucas is a very good skater already. Needs to develop better edge work. He doesn’t have high octane speed to burn ala McDavid but he can keep up and plays with pace.

Lucas will have to put on some weight and muscle like most young guys but that will come with time. He is very good in both ends of the rink and prides himself on working hard in all three zones. He doesn’t shy away from defensive work. He is a battler along the boards and often comes away with the puck. You have to be aware of his presence as he is adept at stealing the puck in both zones. Has very good vision and breaks the defensive zone very quickly with the puck on his stick.

Lucas kills penalties and it is one of his strengths because of his ability to steal pucks. I won’t put him in the Datysuk category as far as being able to strip you of the puck but he is extremely good at it. Lucas is one of those players that the puck seems to follow him because he is always in the right position. Works extremely hard and is relied upon by coaches in tough situations. Garners a lot of ice time because of his stamina.

Besides killing penalties you will also see Raymond on the ice when his team gets the man advantage. Crashes and takes the puck to the net with authority. Has no problem standing in front and taking a beating. Raymond is well liked by his teammates and coaches and leads by example.

Lucas Raymond has represented Sweden on seven different occasions and registered 54 points (30 goals, 24 assists) over 55 games.
