Anton Lundell is poised to go number 4 overall in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Anton is a cool and calm individual with extremely high hockey intelligence. Just might be the smartest player in the draft on the ice. I really enjoy watching this kid play hockey. Could play with more intensity but that is the least of his worries.
Anton is an excellent passer and playmaker. Works hard at both ends of the rink but needs to find more consistency in his game. He is not afraid to go to the dirty areas for a scoring chance. His skating at he beginning of the year needed improvement and I thought he improved in that area. Needs to still develop a more powerful quicker first step and with his improvement last season I see no reason why he can’t do exactly that.
Anton has a long reach and has the ability to steal pucks if you are not paying attention. Breaks up plays in the defensive zone with regularity. I would like to see him play a more physical game and that may come in time. He needs to put on more muscle mass but he wins board battles already. Not afraid to take the puck to the net and use his lethal shot. Holds his hands high on the stick and has excellent wrist movement, his shot is underrated and he likes to use it.
Anton has the ability to draw defenders to him, protects the puck very well with his body and then make a perfect pass to a teammate. Has tremendous hockey IQ for finding the open man in tight spaces. He is really calm under pressure and rarely makes a mistake with the puck on his stick. Thinks the game very well and like most hockey players with a high hockey intelligence thinks the game like chess, always a couple moves ahead.
Anton Lundell is trusted by his coaches and plays in all situations including the PK and PP. He is relied upon by coaches when ahead in the game to protect the lead and or behind in the game late. Well liked in the dressing room by teammates. An asset to his team with leadership qualities.
Anton isn’t flashy or as Pat Quinn once said about flashy players, he isn’t a fancy Dan. Don’t look for Anton to challenge for that number one overall spot at the draft. He may not be the number one pick but he will be a huge asset to any team. No reason why he won’t be a top line player at the next level. Not much to dislike about his game.
